Final Product

I finished the kick in the face, foreign, and blood theme set. I will be making this into an ink piece in my other art class.

Theme and ink start

Today I am going to put together a piece to do in ink for my drawing class that consists of the themes of kick in the head, blood, and foreign; afterwards, I will brainstorm more for the steampunk troopers designs since I was gone for mos of last week.

Theme 2 Reflection 1

I decided to try and get my ideas together, so I made a photoshop piece to have all the elements in one place. For the final designs I will make my own drawings.

Theme 2 Inspiration

The theme for this year is steampunk, so I need to use both the steampunk style and the troopers logo in my design.

Theme Change

I had a discussion with one of the members of the State Trooper Marching Band about designing some images for products and advertisements using the themes of steam-punk and the troopers.

Theme 1

I have decided to make a project revolving around the themes of silence and no way out. I think I would like to make an illustration of a mime in a clear box.

Reflection: 3/29

Since I had one day less than expected I didn't get to start the animation. I will need to put in some extra time if I want to get it done.

Monday, March 26, 2012

Goal: 3/26

I have started making the final rig for my animation. I need to add color and rigging to finish the rig, but I hope to have the animation started at the end of the week.

Reflection: 3/22

I created a scientist since the rig I tried was poorly rigged. I also decided an alien would be an interesting scientist.

Goal: 3/20

My goal is to start work on the animation

Reflection: 3/16

I fund a better way to rig both the dragon and the bird, so I fixed both. I still need to adjust the weights on the dragon, but I have decided, from time concerns, to just use an already assembled rig rather than my own for the scientist.

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

Goal: 3/12

I hope to either create a scientist rig or choose a rig from the resources folder. I want to be able to start my animation next week.

Reflection 3/1

I finished all of the setting except for a scientist and a dragon rig. The dragon is only needing rigging, but the scientist is non existant, so I may choose to use a rig from the server with some props.

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

Goal 2/28

This week I hope to fine tune my bird rig, and get started on the setting for the animation.

Reflection 2/24

I am slightly behind schedule, but I ran into problems with the bird at first. Now it is fixed, and I can start making a room to put all of the models and rigs in.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Goal 2/22

I hope to finish making the bird rig, and then starting a room for the rigs to interact in.

Reflection 2/15

I polished off some of the other props, but most of my week was spent creating some simple cartoon like plants and a bird that will be a simple rig. My plan is to use them all in a sort of lab, so the plants are meant to look like plastic.

Monday, February 13, 2012

Goal 2/13

I'm looking to mop up a few of the prop models, I also have an idea on how to use the models and rigs for an animation. I am going to see if I can make a good rig for the idea and some additional props.

Reflection 2/9

I succeeded in making several props for the scientist, and it looks like my partner has found a good way to make the model.

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

Goal 2/7

My goal for this week is to finish making the props for the scientist and to try to come up with an easily made rig for the scientist. Something simple, but I would like to have a variety of movements available

Reflection 2/3

I was unable to create the rigs that I wanted, but I was able to make prop models and the start of a scientist

Monday, January 30, 2012

Goal 1/30

My goal for this week is to start some simple models with more complex rigging.

1/26: Reflection

I succeeded in making both sets of legs while my partner assembled the various parts of the dragon. He also made preparations for rigging the whole model. Small set backs and delays occurred for both my partner and I, but we are still on schedule. I also made simple wing design, but we may need a different version. Next week we hope to make some simple models with more complex rigging, so that they have multiple uses.

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

Goal 1/24

By Thursday I expect to have the leg parts ready to go into mudbox.

Friday, January 20, 2012

Progress Week 2

The eye is finished. Both the body and head are ready for mudbox. The tail is almost finished.

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

The Breakdown

January: I want to have at least 3/4 of the dragon finished in maya by the end of January. February: I want to have all of the dragon ready to become a rig and crafted in mudbox. March: I would like to have the rig set up, and to have a start on animation. April: The project should be finished, fine tuned, and ready for the art show.

The Proposal

I want to make the model of a dragon in Maya and Mudbox. If I have additional time I will make it into a rig and create an animation with it. The head itself already takes up an entire grid set to the foot dimensions, so I may need to resize some of the body parts.

The Head

I started work on the dragon's head today. I need to send it to mudbox and then work on the rest of the model.

Art analysis

This is a photo of webcomic art created by Michael Avon Oeming and Andrea Wicklund. Because the art is a part of the comic, it does not have a title. The style of brush strokes give a feeling of ordered chaos by using rough thick lines with fading edges. I would describe the style as grunge; it has dark and cool colors to make that feeling more solid in the piece too. It seems that the artists wanted to say that no matter how shattered a person is, they are still a human being. I love the feeling behind it, and it shows a very different style of art than I am use to. I want to make a piece of art in the same style as this comic.

Rough Idea Revised and Inspiration

I have chosen to work on an animation of a portal style dragon animation or 3-d model. If possible I would like to run a screen capture to show the whole process. Pictures for our inspiration: wings, body structure, skin and mechanic types, and shape.

Independent Project Ideas

I am thinking that an animation or an illustration of a dragon fighting a knight would be a good project. A three dimensional animation would take the longest to do, but it also holds the highest chance of taking a good place in art shows. I will need to learn how to make controls in Maya, but if I can devote a semester to this project I can easily overcome this.
